Laser cutting application in metal materials has been widely known, but many people in the use of laser cutting machine, but and know how to judge the quality of processing. In fact, cutting quality is usually judged from the Angle of end surface roughness, bottom burr, verticality, slot width and so on.

First, end surface roughness

Laser cutting material, affected by the airflow and feed speed, the end will form a vertical (or inclined) grain, the deeper the grain is the rougher the end face, the shallower the grain is the smoother the end face. Roughness not only affects the appearance of the edge, but also affects the friction characteristics, so the lower the roughness, the higher the cutting quality. By adjusting the parameters of laser power, feed speed, focal length, type of auxiliary gas and air pressure, the end surface roughness can be optimized continuously.

Two, bottom burr

The principle of laser cutting metal is to make the metal vaporize instantly through the high energy of the laser, and blow away the molten slag on the surface of the workpiece through the auxiliary gas. But in the actual processing process, thick plate, lack of air pressure, feed speed mismatch and other factors, will lead to part of the molten slag after cooling to form a burr, hanging at the bottom of the workpiece. At this time, additional deburring work is needed, which costs extra time. The burr at the bottom of the workpiece and the hanging slag are very important evaluation criteria for cutting quality.

3. Verticality

For sheet metal, the verticality of laser cutting is negligible, but when the thickness of the material exceeds 10mm, the verticality of the cutting edge is very important. Away from the focus, the laser beam diverges, and the cut widens toward the top or bottom, depending on where the focus is. The cutting edge deviates from the vertical line by a few hundredths of a millimeter, and the more vertical the edge, the higher the cutting quality.

Four, slit width

Slot width is the embodiment of machining accuracy, usually does not affect the cutting quality, only in the workpiece internal need to form a particularly precise contour, pattern, slot width will become an important indicator. The width of the slit determines the minimum inner diameter of the contour. The smaller the width of the slit, the more precise the contour and the smaller the aperture of the hole can be processed, which is one of the important advantages of laser cutting instead of plasma cutting. However, as the thickness of the plate increases, the width of the slit will inevitably increase. To ensure stable high-precision cutting, it is necessary to ensure that the workpiece is stable in the processing area of the laser cutting machine.
